Rating: Oh, PG, maybe.
For: eolivet: Who asked for this pairing with the words, 'I just feel like you've lost faith in me.' ;)
Sorry it took a while. I hope you like it. :-)
Her words followed him around as he walked, through the office space, into the control room. Out of the editing booth, into Dan and Casey’s office to tell them about a change in the run down meeting.
‘I just, don’t get it, Jeremy.’
Natalie’s voice had been quiet when she had spoke, unsure, hesitant. In the back of his mind he remembered thinking that he didn’t like to hear her voice like that, it sounded wrong. She should be strong. She hadn’t sounded strong, hours after their fight, standing in his apartment.
‘I thought we loved one another.’
He still loved her, he couldn’t deny that. The love hadn’t gone away, it had just been surpassed by another feeling, a stronger feeling; that what they had was never going to work.
She had turned to go, but had stopped just before she reached the door and turned around.
‘I just feel like you’ve lost faith in me.’
Natalie wasn’t crying but her voice was filled with feeling. Regret. Sadness. If Jeremy had replied he probably would have heard them in his own voice too.
He hadn’t answered her and she’d walked out of his apartment.
The words had hurt then, and still hurt now, but the fact that hurt Jeremy most of all was the fact that they were probably true. He had lost faith, not just in her but in what they had. Maybe he’d even lost a little faith in himself.
He quietly wondered, as he watched her across the room, talking to Dana, how easy it was to get back.
